I swear I'll never give in, I refuse

Okay, I can take the fact that Awake has been cancelled, considering their low ratings. Doesn't mean I'm happy about it, because seriously, the last few episodes have been epic awesome.

But when the husband told me that Breakout Kings has been cancelled? WTF??? Nooooo!!!!

*sadface times a billionty*

In other news, I've still not watched Supernatural and Nikita's season finale. I've had to stay away from the flist and even have to kinda squint at my Twitter timeline to avoid being spoiled.

In other, non-TV news, Ramadhan is coming up! I've not replaced my missed fasting days from last year (eeks!) and I'm not entirely sure if I can. I have a monster appetite now! I'll have eaten a relatively heavy breakfast at 9 am, and by 12.30 I'll be starving again. I'm not sure if I'll even be able to fast at all for this year's Ramadhan since by that time I'll be about 7-8 months along. We'll see, though.

So yeah, what are you guys up to?

Like all you lovely folks, I've got a dream

So, as I mentioned in my last post, my little girl turned 3 a couple of weeks ago. We threw a Tangled themed party for her.

I initially had all these grand ideas for food and games and decorations. But, life got in the way, and we really only managed to get started on things about a week or so before the party. Since we planned on DIY-ing most of the things, well, a week wasn't nearly long enough. And to make matters worse, I was down with really high fever for 3 days. When I finally started to feel a bit better, the husband caught whatever bug I had, and he came down with really high fever as well. In fact, on the day of the party, he was actually quite sick, but he carried on like a trooper.

What I really wanted at the party was definitely those purple buntings with the sun emblem on it. In the movie you can see the buntings during the scene where Rapunzel and Flynn were at the kingdom to see the lanterns.

I had found a template online for the buntings, but I didn't want to just print it out on paper and hang them. So, I did what any insane overachieving mom would do: I bought purple cloth, cut them into triangles, printed the sun logo, traced and cut them on cardboard, and painted them on each cloth triangle.

A tip to other insane overachieving moms who want to do this: DO NOT use a paintbrush to paint the sun on. It WILL get messy and sloppy and the colour is dark and it takes FOREVER. I mentioned to the husband that this would probably go a lot faster if we used sponges instead. He immediately went to the kitchen, grabbed a kitchen sponge and cut them up into quarters, and holy crap, not only did it LOOK so much better, it went wayyyy faster!

This is what it looked like all strung up at the party:

My mom actually liked the buntings because they were purple and went with the colour theme of her house, so those buntings are still hanging there till today! LOL

Another thing I definitely wanted was the Snuggly Duckling sign to hang at the food table. In the movie, Snuggly Duckling is the name of the tavern that Flynn takes Rapunzel to, in the hopes of freaking her out. I sketched what I wanted on my phone, like so:

I showed it to the husband, and said, I want something like this, on cardboard, to give the impression of it being wood. I took a nap to sleep off my fever, and when I woke up, the husband showed me this:

I'm SO glad I married an artist! This was exactly what I wanted! :D This went up at the food table, just as I wanted it to.

We also printed a few of those 'Wanted' posters, and put them up around the house. I saved a picture of it to print, but the husband is anal, and he wanted to change the nose on the posters. In the movie, Flynn makes a big deal about how they never got his nose right in the posters.

Another element I wanted for the party was I wanted it to have a carnival like feel to it. I wanted games, but I didn't want to have to round up everyone and say "Okay, let's play games now!" So, I decided to set up a couple of games that anyone could play at any point during the party that they wanted. I came up with 2 games: a Pin the Tail type game, and a Toss the Ball type game. I sketched my ideas on my phone again:

Again, I showed this to the husband, and explained how I wanted to set them up. This is what he came up with:

Awesome, huh? :D

We initially planned another game, where we'd fill up an inflatable pool with coloured plastic balls (basically a ball pit), and draw a picture of Pascal, Rapunzel's pet chameleon on a few of the balls, and whoever finds it would get a prize. Although we did still have the ball pit, I'm glad we scrapped that idea. The kids were tossing the balls all over the place, there was NO WAY the game would've worked!

One thing that I really really wanted, but we had to ditch the idea for lack of time and energy, was to have a backdrop. In the movie, Rapunzel paints this lovely mural on her wall depicting the lanterns in the night sky. I really wanted to incorporate that in the party, whether as a backdrop behind the food table, or for a photobooth. But, like I said, both the husband and I fell sick before the party, we just couldn't do it.

I had also planned on baking all kinds of goodies for the party, but I only managed to muster up the strength to bake cupcakes. No fancy schmancy fondant decorations on them this time around either, I was barely able to stay upright. So I just frosted the cupcakes with pink and purple frosting, and topped them off with simple fondant flowers, to represent the magical flower from the movie.

Um, no pics of the cupcakes, because they were quite hideous. Heh.

As for the party favours, I had seen this Pascal Party Blower thing on Pinterest, and it was actually what kicked off my plans to throw this Tangled theme party. When I first came across that link, I showed it to the husband, and he said "That's cool! But we could probably make it look better."

And this is what he came up with:

There were green ones as well, but those had already gone into the favour bags. :) It's a shame we couldn't find any proper red/pink party blowers, to look like Pascal's tongue. But I figured, he's a chameleon, his tongue could be colourful too. Heh.

Here are the rest of the favours:

A couple of munchies, a Pascal party blower, a box of crayons (which I individually wrapped because I HATED the original box cover), and some colouring pages.

What the original box of crayons looked like. Ugh!

40 boxes of crayons, all nice and colourful and SHINY! Just how I like them. :D

We also included a little magic wand for the girls, and a little toy car for the boys. Sure there were no wands or cars in the movie, but we found them for really cheap, and we couldn't resist. Oh, and every kid got a party hat when they arrived at the party as well.

Alright, here are pictures of the party itself:

Birthday girl ready for her party to get started!

Ball pit, complete with slide! The kids LOVED this.

Tossing 'apples' into Max's mouth.

Some of the kids didn't really 'toss' the apples, but more like shoveled them down Max's throat! LOL!

Pin the Braid on Rapunzel!

Cake time!

The birthday girl is looking a little stoned in that picture because she had just woken up from her nap. And yeah, we only had a little bitty cake, because we already had cupcakes, so this cake was basically just for us to sing Happy Birthday to Fiya. It's just a little 'princess cake' which we bought on the way to the party.

Here, have some random pictures of guests:

Fiya received a TON of presents, thank you everyone who came! It's like, we're gonna have to refrain from buying her anymore toys in the near future, because we have a little mountain of unopened toys in the house right now. We even have to actually kinda 'ration' her presents out, so she wouldn't get bored too quickly.

So yeah, that's basically it for Fiya's Tangled party! If you're on Facebook, you can check out hubby's album here, and another album here.

I must say, although it was extremely exhausting, but it was A LOT of fun! I really really enjoyed preparing for the party, and I'm kinda itching to throw more parties! Now all I need is an occasion! LOL

Happy birthday, princess! Mama and Abah love you sooooo much!

Count down as the weeks trickle into days

Hello, all!

Just a quickie post about what's been going on recently.

Have you guys watched Avengers yet? No? LOSER! Go and watch it now! Even if you've not watched any of the prior Marvel movies, it is still quite possibly THE BEST superhero ensemble movie EVAR. I watched it on IMAX 3D and it was teh awesome! My husband watched it twice. The first time he watched it with his fellow geek friends, so you can bet they were literally squeeing throughout the whole thing! And apparently, they were the only ones who freaked out at the after credits scene. Heh.

Speaking of my geeky husband, remember how he has a comic book out? Well, he will be going to FREAKING COMIC CON this year! Basically he'll have a booth there with some other comic peeps from here, to shop around for international publishers. It's so hard to believe! I mean, Comic Con is one of those things that we read about other people going to, with no aspirations of going there ourselves, since it's well, in San Diego and all. But holy crap, when we found out that hubby had been selected as one of the few to go and promote their work there, it's like.. whoaaaa! So if you're going this year, keep a look out for him! I told him to grab Jensen and/or Jared if they happen to be wandering around.

Last weekend, my little girl turned 3! We threw a Rapunzel themed birthday party for her, since she's always loved the movie. Since Tangled party stuff are few and far between here, we decided to just roll up our sleeves and DIY whatever we could! I'm still waiting for the husband to finish editing the pics so I can upload them.

When the pics are ready, I'll put up a separate post about the party. :)

By the way, have you guys been keeping up with TV renewals and such? I'm happy that Supernatural got another season, because for it to end like this? Ugh. Also, I'm VERY happy about renewals for Nikita, Once Upon A Time, Community and New Girl. Not too happy about the news that Awake is cancelled. *sadface*

Okay, that is all.

*hugs all around*

All at once, everything looks different, now that I see you

My daughter has this thing, where if she gets into a show or movie, she will want to watch it ALL THE DAMN TIME.

Like, one of her first obsessions was the (quite awesome) stop motion kids show Timmy Time. If you've ever watched Shaun the Sheep, Timmy is the baby lamb in that show. Timmy Time is the spin off, where he goes to school. My husband and I actually really like the show too, and we usually enjoy watching it with Fiya.

Then after that, she decided to 'grow up' and became OBSESSED with The Little Mermaid. She adored Ariel, and she could sing (albeit in gibberish) most of the songs. Her favourite song was Part of Your World, and she'd sing it, complete with hand gestures and rolling around on the floor.

The Little Mermaid is actually one of my all time favourite Disney movies (tied with Aladdin). But watching it every day, sometimes 3-4 times straight, it made me think a little too much about it. Like, how exactly do mermaids breathe? What exactly are their respiratory systems like? Do they use lungs? Gills? And how is it possible for them to talk and sing (and play instruments!!) underwater? Shouldn't everything sound like muffled goop? This is only the tip of the iceberg of stupid questions I have asked my husband during the course of my daughter's obsession.

Then, we introduced her to Rapunzel, and THAT consumed her life for quite a bit. The husband made a mistake of downloading the soundtrack and playing it in the car. So now everytime we're in his car, she would be demanding to listen to Rapunzel. And she'd be singing along to every song (again, in gibberish). But when she sang along to I See The Light, she'd insist I sing along with her, and hold her hands and brush her hair, just the way Flynn Rider did to Rapunzel in the movie. And I KNOW that years from now, when Fiya is all grown up and not want to hang out with her mom all the time, I'll listen to that song and weep.

Anyways, after her Rapunzel phase, she caught the Rio bug. She learned how to samba from that movie, LOL.

After Rio, it was Lion King. This led her to roar at everyone and everything.

And now, her most recent obsession, is Happy Feet 2. I'll be honest, I don't even really like this movie. But one night, I was so tired, that I zonked out on the living room couch. My husband decided to play that movie for Fiya, and the few times that I woke up, I'd see her dancing along to the penguins. And now she demands to watch penguins every night. By the time the movie is over, it'll be at least 12.30 am. And I'll be too sleepy for anything else.

Basically all I'm saying is, I have a huge backlog of TV shows to catch up on! *sobs*

That is all.

A stubborn heart remains unchanged

It's been a couple of months since my last update. So this will be my "What I've been up to" post.

I ALMOST went to my first concert ever. The Foo Fighters had scheduled a show in Singapore, and my husband and I immediately snapped up tickets and booked our flight and accommodations. Barely 2 weeks before the show, they decided to cancel it. My husband is still holding a grudge against them.

Since we had already bought our flight tickets and booked the hotel, we decided, eh screw this, let's just have a mini vacation, just the two of us. We hadn't planned on bringing Fiya along, because, hello, concert. Our original plan was to only go to Singapore for the concert, so we only had 2 days there. So what did we do?

Why, go to Universal Studios, of course!

One of my favourite things about traveling with my husband, is that we both have the tendency to just wing it. No itinerary, no schedule, no plans. So on the first day there, we got to Universal Studios at around 6.30pm. They had closed the rides, but the park was still open for picture taking and shopping. The place is fun at night! They also had an epic fireworks display that left my husband temporarily blind.

But how could one go to Universal Studios without going on the Transformers ride, and the Battlestar Galactica ride? So we decided to go again the next day, despite the fact that our flight was at 5 pm, which meant we had to be at the airport by 3 pm, which meant we had to leave Universal at 1.30 pm, which meant we only had a few hours to go on the rides. But did we care? Nope! The husband only managed to get on those two rides anyway, since the queue was horrendous, but it was worth it. :)

Besides Universal, we also managed to squeeze in some time to try the famous 'Tulang Merah' dish (I wasn't a huge fan) and also to visit the National Library, because they actually have my hubby's comic there! Hee, we were pretty proud, especially seeing how worn it was!

And that was it for Singapore!

Last week, my family went to Hong Kong for a family vacation! Our last vacation as a family was in 1992. Since then, it was really hard to coordinate a vacation where all of us were around (the problem with having 3 pilots in the family!). Somehow the stars aligned a couple of months ago, and all of us managed to get leave at the same time, so woohoo!

Of course, our family has grown significantly larger since 1992. :)

My mom's not in this picture unfortunately, she was behind the camera.

And yep, we went to Disneyland! The next day, we went to Ocean Park! So that's 3 theme parks in the span of a month for me and hubby, haha!

Anyways, Hong Kong was fun, but exhausting! The place was NOT very stroller friendly. And there we were with 3 strollers. We had to lug the thing up and down the stairs to get to the subways, on the bus, up and down stairs at Ocean Park (THE WORST).

But all in all, it really was fun. Halal food was pretty easy to come by if you don't mind eating kebabs and Indian foods and such. Although Disneyland has a halal restaurant now, they didn't before this.

Also, stuff is cheap there! We shopped like crazy on our last day, at Citygate Outlets and the Ladies Market. I got me a cute pair of Marimekko Converse shoes that I'm pretty proud of!

So yeah, that's about it, since my last update.

Oh, by the way, despite going to 3 theme parks, and me being a roller coaster junkie, I didn't go on any rides at all.

Because I'm 4 months pregnant! :D

Yep, Fiya is gonna be a big sister! :D :D :D

I'm a bit nervous thinking about having 2 kids, but extremely excited nonetheless. We still don't know the gender yet, but I'll be perfectly happy either way.

Okay, now THAT is all I've been up to since the last update. :)

Hey, everyone!

Guess who is the newest fan of BBC's 'Sherlock'?

*points to self* THIS GAL!

Yep, I finally watched the show. The husband downloaded the pilot, watched it without my knowing, then totally GUSHED about it. He immediately downloaded the rest of the series.

I made him watch the pilot again with me, and immediately decided to watch the rest of the episodes whenever our daughter wasn't hogging the TV.

Oh gosh, you guys! This SHOW! I wanna smish it forever and ever!!!

I had a little trouble getting into Cumberbatch as Sherlock at first, because I weirdly found that his face (which to me looked EXTREMELY young) did not go with his voice (super deep and MANLY oh my!). But yeah, I got over that. :D

And John is such an adorable little sidekick I wanna pinch his cheeks all the time!

So, anyway, we finally watched Season 2's finale last night. I will now go through my flist for any Sherlock fans, and please don't be surprised if there's a comment from me on your entry from ages ago, yeah?

Sadly, now I have to join all of you in the wait for the new season. *pouts*

Fast and Loose. a.k.a Brits are awesome.

Have you guys ever watched the show Fast and Loose? The hubby sent me a youtube link the other day, saying it was kinda sorta like Whose Line Is It Anyway.

This was the video he sent me:

<lj-embed id="26" />

This intrigued us so much that hubby downloaded the first 2 episodes, which we watched last night.

This show is EPIC. I swear, Brits have the weirdest sense of humour EVER.

Check this out (with bonus Wayne Brady!)

<lj-embed id="27" />

I laughed at that one till I cried.

Another segment that I love is the Sideways Scene.

<lj-embed id="28" />

WHERE DO THEY COME UP WITH THIS STUFF???

That is all. :D

Big Bad Wolf Book Sale

So, I took the day off yesterday to go to this book sale, organized by Big Bad Wolf Books. It claims to be the biggest book sale in the world.

The guys who organized this sale have a bookstore near my place, and it's pretty well known for its really low prices. So when they claimed that the book sale will have MUCH lower prices? My interest was piqued.

To be honest, I had no idea of what books to buy. It had been years since I bought a book which wasn't written by Neil Gaiman or a cookbook. So I wasn't really expecting to really do much damage.

But then this happened:

That was our total haul. The husband bought an art book (which usually costs RM150.00 in stores) for the price of RM15! All those fiction novels? They usually cost RM35 for paperbacks. At the sale, they went for RM8 each, including hardcovers. The kids books mostly cost less than RM10 each.

These are my books:

A look at the titles (these were all RM8 each):

Couldn't resist these classics (at RM6 each):

And to be honest, I didn't even finish browsing all the selections! This was basically from half of the 'general fiction' section. But I've had enough for a day. The husband says all these books would last me till my 3rd kid. Heh.

Overall, I'm pretty happy with the sale. The hall was big and spacious, the staff was helpful and friendly, and the prices are CRAZY.

I know layne67 loves books, so you should totally go check it out! The sale will be on until October 16th, at MAEPS Serdang.
Wow, it's been ages since my last update.

*dusts*

I'm still alive and well. I'm also watching a lot of TV lately.

So now, in addition to Supernatural, I'm also somewhat obsessed with Community (yes, yes, I know I'm late to the party), Leverage, Alphas, Nikita, Breakout Kings... hm, is that it? Seemed like a lot more.

See, that's why I don't update. My life is boring because I'm watching too much TV. :p

Oh, also because I got suckered into Twitter.
Truth ain't gonna change the way you lie

Guys, I... I think I might have a slight problem.

I may or may not be addicted to a little band called the Foo Fighters right now.

Oh sure, I've been a casual fan for years (although I've always acknowledged that Dave Grohl is the epitome of AWESOME), but this time it's really something else.

I probably made a mistake when I watched this:

<lj-embed id="19" />
That performance made me go crazy and I HAD to seek out the rest of the songs that they played during this set (22 songs in total, whaaaaat?). I then attempted to load 12 YouTube videos at once, because I was too impatient to have to wait for one video to finish before I could load another one.

But this... THIS performance killed me:

<lj-embed id="20" />
Aaaaargh, all their mini solos, and that extended jam session!!! *tears hair out*

If I'm going THIS nuts over a video, I might spontaneously combust if I were to ever see them in person.

That's okay. Foo Fighters, pleeeeeease make your way over to this side of the pond! I promise I won't stalk you <strike>too much</strike>!
Snatch thieves should go die in a fire.

I posted this on Facebook, but I think I need to share this here as well.

<lj-embed id="16" />
Ladies, DO NOT put your handbags on the car seat! Put it on the floor, or what I do is, I'll put my handbag in between the seats, and click my seat belt through the straps. I'd imagine the robbers would probably get jerked off their bikes if they grabbed it and tried to rush off (unless the straps were to break, of course).

Also, to my American friends, the driver sits on the right side of the car here. No one was injured in this video, I believe.
So, I haven't been receiving any email notifications on comments or replies to my comments. So, apologies if it seems that I haven't been responding to anyone.

I was going through my LJ inbox today (I had 56 unread messages, and I didn't notice!) and a couple of them said that I'm not authorized to view that comment. Seeing as how I have no idea what that comment is in response to, I'm kinda confused. Anyone knows what that's about?

Also, *waves*. Hi, flist.

That is just so typically me

This morning on the way to work, I was listening to Mix FM in the car. I never used to really listen to Mix's morning show, but ever since JD and Dilly (formerly of Red FM) are the new hosts, they're now my default morning show to listen to. Yeah, I'm a fan of JD and Dilly. :)

Anyway, this morning, for the Dilly's Dilemma segment, the topic was whether it's alright for a husband to start a business with his ex girlfriend. Most of the women who called in said NO. CANNOT. MUST CONSIDER WIFE'S FEELINGS.

My opinion? I think it's understandable that a wife would feel insecure that her husband will be spending A LOT of time with this woman who once held his heart. But at the same time, she should support his decision to start this business, especially if he's very passionate about it.

So how?

What the husband should do, is to ALWAYS keep his wife in the loop. Don't go for secret meetings with his ex. Bring his wife along, ask for her opinions, let her have a say as well. This way, the wife will feel just as important, and she'll be able to trust her husband's relationship with his ex more, if he's being transparent.

This is just my opinion, though. What do you think?

Hush, hush, darling

I had just discovered Damn You Autocorrect! a few days ago.

A word of advice if, like me, you're reading it for the first time: DO NOT read this in the office. I literally had to hide under my table, I was laughing so hard that I had tears running down my face.

I don't have an iPhone, but I sometimes use my parents' iPad to log on to Facebook, and it annoys the heck out of me when it tries to autocorrect me every time I comment. Fortunately I'm extremely slow when typing on a touch screen, so I tend to notice the autocorrects, but I totally get how frustrating it can be!

Oh, another reason not to read it at work. You'll probably not get anything done. :)
